But what would be the ideal protein skimmer for your 29 or 30-gallon tank? Well, In this post I’m going to share with you my experience on nano protein skimmers that are popular in the market. I have researched almost all well-known and branded skimmer for a 29-gallon tank and found not are equal as to quality.
Is a Bigger Protein Skimmer Better?
There are several types of skimmers available and for a long time, the largest skimmer was the best skimmer. However, it is not just the skimmer’s size that contributes to its capacity, but it’s design as well. A larger skimmer optimized for a smaller tank will be able to skim more efficiently because there is less of a gap between the water level and the skimmer’s neck.
However, if the larger skimmer is not designed for a small tank, it can’t be able to create sufficient bubbles due to lack of enough waste and surface tension in a smaller tank. A smaller tank will also experience a slow reaction time if the skimmer is too large for the tank volume.

But, a protein skimmer is not essential while you can do this manually.
If you have a plan to keep some special like a hard creature, a protein skimmer would be required for that situation. 24 Hours. You can run your protein skimmer 24 hours in 7 days as it is designed in this way. Maintaining your skimmer irregularly can become a cause of slime coating by making it dry, which really impacts the skimmer performance badly.
If you run your protein skimmer all day, your tank gets sufficient dissolved oxygen that is essential for aquarium. There are many people who run their protein skimmer as part-time, but it is not recommended unless you have a special aquarium creature.
However, some aquariums may have special requirements, and some people may have a disagreement. Even some are may found issues that it removes foods during feeding.
In that situation, when you think that protein skimmer is removing your tank food noticeably, I recommend you find a better way to feed and make it slow the flow so that fish can find this food before goes it over.
